The guys on the cover of this weeks give-away are not your stereo-typical computer geeky looking guys. They look like they could be in the "Back Street Boys".

Or like professional Security Officers...
They look too happy for a typical computer geek. A typical computer geek looks gloomy. Look at Tony.

Thank you for your kind (and silly) comments. This wasn't my favorite cover. We had a goofier one, but they didn't go for it.
Also, Jess (left) wanted to take his shirt off, but I thought the groupies would be too much

Why ??? What is so funny in that?
Of course, I would have to buy two copies - the book has two authors, and both look very good, I want them BOTH!

Maybe. Then I would have to buy only one book... Looks like a good idea... I guess, I should make up some damn intelligent question to impress Jess... Hm. How is that:
"QUESTION TO JESS - URGENT!
What is Java Security and how can I use it in my Java program?
Pls, reply 2 me soon, cos it's Very Urgent!"

If you had put that in the "other API" forum you might have won a free book. Too bad!

The focus of this feature is a subject that's very close to home - the Wrox covers. Often the subject of much discussion, both within Wrox and on various discussion groups, our policy of putting author photos on our covers still seems to create something of a stir.

Thanks for the link, Paul!

"We wanted our readers to see that our authors, like them, are the kind of guys who are knee-deep in coding. Pretty much all they do is program - their pictures almost breathe that."
Is this Wrox's way of saying "unattractive white guys"?
"There is a further reason for using our authors' pictures on the cover. Everyone who writes for us is committed to making what they write both workable and relevant, and recognizes this responsibility to the reader. And, as real programmers, they are all people you may well come across at a seminar or conference - if you recognize them, you can go up and talk to them. This is what Programmer to Programmer´┐Ż is all about."
So does Wrox provide their authors with medical insurance?
By the way, I was trying to find "various discussion groups" talking about Wrox covers, but all I found was this author picture: http://www.1aspstreet.com/xq/ASP/lngAuthorId.38384/lngWId.4/qx/vb/authors/ShowAuthorBio.htm

very !

Hi guys,
I work for Wrox here in England and I must admit, you guys have been keeping us amused over the last month or so with this thread Thanks!
We thought it would be quite cool for you guys to ask us questions about our books directly so therefore Jan Kolasinski, Wrox' Brand Manager, will be starting a new thread in the Meaningless Drivel forum today! If you have any questions about our cover designs, our Editorial Process, or even about where we work, please feel free to ask away - the more the better!

"Yes, the pasty complexions from avoiding sunlight and the slightly deranged looks from too many cheetos and Jolt colas is clearly visible on the faces of our authors."
