Hi there,
I'm happy to announce that I passed the
SCJP this morning with
91%.
The last period my daily activities where hijacked by
Java.
Thanks to JavaRanch that bootstrapped the
whole proces of learning. A special thanks
to Valentin Crettaz, Corey McGlone, Barry Gaunt,
and Marlene Miller.
And now the material I used:
JavaRanch Rules Roundup This game showed me I didn't know as much as I thought in the first
days of my preparation.
Kathy and Bert's guide:
excellent for the exam, I went through it twice and the last days I
flew over the two minutes drill. I did only one master exams of cd.
Sometimes I needed some more info than the book gives to get to know
more about it.
Whizlab's certification software very good software, it contains some mistakes (but so does K&B, and
nobody is perfect). I got a bit upset with the support staff, they
are not very responsive.
Mughal's and Rasmussen's book Excellent litterature, that as has often been said covers a bit more
than required.
Java Thread's by Oaks and Wong Good for confidence building after I've studied from other resources.
Sun tutorials on threads and collections Very good. I went over these tutorials and played around with the code.
Dan's mock exam Dan Chisolm's comprehensive
test and topic tests are top quality. Dan
Chisolm has polished these questions very thorougly.
Heller and Robberts Contains some good chapters, for me Threads and Casting are covered nicely,
but it's not my favourite book.
Thinking in Java by Bruce Eckel Great book. I have used this book for further reading on Java next to K&B.
It reassures you on the various concepts.
If I may now that I've passed some tips
Try out mock exam code, check why it works or doesn't work
after all at the end of the day you are doing this to write
some real code.
Keep a list of scores and go over and over the weak areas.
Keep notes and take care of them along the studying proces.
That's all, I'm going to enjoy now,
Cheers,
Gian Franco Casula
