Hi Jesus,

see the collection below. Why don't you run for PMP ? With CAPM you need to re-certificate after 5 years. I think PMP is of higher value and gives you more than associate status like CAPM does. PMP includes CAPM and more.

Anyway Head First PMP also covers the CAPM stuff and hence is the main source for PMP or CAPM.

The PMBOK Guide is more kind of reference.

more CAPM stuff:

Darya,

PMI site says that I need 'work experience' in the capacity of project manager, and some hours of project management education, to qualify for the PMP exam. I do not have those.

Are those requirements only an advice instead of something that they check before allowing the exam?

I did initially go to that site to look at PMP, but looked at CAPM instead because of those requirements.

Comments appreciated.

I checked PMI site, and the process for getting PMP includes those requirements, before being allowed to take the exam.

Hi Jesus,

I agree, these requirements are to my mind a little bit overkill. Nevertheless PMI speaks of leading tasks and NOT projects. So who can say that he never lead a task by himself . Each work package is a task and we are all doing nothing else than solving tasks day by day.

A CAPM wouldn't help you either here. Take a 5-day class sponsored by your employer and try out the application form.

Actually I will do it this way in near future .

Darya

They do verify applicants randomly. Before giving the certification, if you fail the verification, the fee will be refunded, minus 100$.

Wouldn't your employer take those fees

In my current employment, they dont have such benefits. (All my past 6 to 7 certs are all from my own pocket.)

So are mine certs, but from now on I insist that my employer must pay for it. It's for his own benefit too.

..applied to capm few hours ago..waiting (within 5 days) for result of application for eligibility..then ill take the exam (of course, after studying using HF PMP)

CAPM will most likely help me get the first project management job. After that, it is just a matter of time until I get qualified to take PMP.
