Hi All,

Atlast after a long wait for almost a month, I got my results today and I have cleared the SCEA part ii/iii with a score of 86.

This report shows the total points that could have been awarded
in each section and the actual amount of points you were awarded.
This information is provided in order to give you feedback on
your relative strengths on a section basis. The maximum number of
points you could have received is 100, minimum to pass is 70.

Class Diagram (44 maximum) .......................... 40
Component Diagram (44 maximum) ...................... 35
Sequence/Colloboration Diagrams (12 maximum) ........ 11

I really want to thank monica for accepting my assignment via email, since my jar file was around 3MB .

I have lost a lot of marks in the component diagram, since I wasn't sure about the kind of details i need to furnish. Anyhow I have cleared the exam and had I not been part of this forum, it would have been much more difficult job.

I would like to thank all of you guys for the kind help.

Cheers,
- Ganesh.

Hi Shogo,

I submitted my assignment on Jan'25 and took the exam on 28th. It normally takes around 4 weeks to get the result.

Hi Ganesh,

Congratulations! great job!

I am getting ready to submit my solution to the assignment. I have few
questions. Can you please answer?

1) How many class diagrams you prepared?
2) How big is your assumption document?
3) How many component diagrams do you have?

Thanks in advance,

Prasad

First of all Thanks guys for your wishes .

1) How many class diagrams you prepared?
=> I had only one class diagram and it contained the technology indepenedent BDM classes in it.
2) How big is your assumption document?
=> The assumption page ran upto 8 pages.
3) How many component diagrams do you have?
=> Well, this is the place where i lost most of my marks. The main problem with component diagram is , I wasn't really sure what amount of information sun actually expects from us . Also, placing the components in a single diagram made my diagram cluttered and hence i went with around 4 component diagrams one for signon, one for customer profile and other two for the rest of use cases (one depicting the interaction between the web-tier to the business-tier) and the other showing the business-tier interactions.

Cheers,
- Ganesh.

Thanks Ganesh.

Can you briefly explain the sections in your 8 page assumption document? I am in deep trouble in understanding how much detal I need to provide here. I appreciate your help.

I am prepaing 2 component diagrams. One, hig level component interactions and the other one showing all the components. I am grouping the components by "tiers" in both diagrams. Please comment what you think about this procedure.

Thnak you,

Prasad

Ganesh,

Congratualtions , a very good score!!
I had some doubts.. ur answers will be helpful.
1) did u consider 'Equipment' on BDM, I dont understand how to relate it with the system.
2)Did u handle seat booking, as there isnt any specific use case for that?
3)did u justify in ur notes why u were going for the Distributed or n tier architecutre than just 2 tier.?
4)n last one ...When it comes to authentication, can u provide some pros and cons of handling it at webserver or appserver level. So that I can choose which one fits best. Or any links please.

Thansk,
rashmi

Prasad,
I had splited up my design documnet into different sections like :
1)Introduction
2)Technology Used
3)How J2EE satisfies both func/non-func requirements.
4)Application Design:
Design Goals / Choices /Assumptions (Section includes all the technical design choices for each use case + the assumption i made)
5)Patterns Used.

I am prepaing 2 component diagrams. One, hig level component interactions and the other one showing all the components. I am grouping the components by "tiers" in both diagrams. Please comment what you think about this procedure.

I think the approach you have mentioned is fine, but make sure you didn't miss any info. Keep your diagram as simple as you can without cluttering.

All the very best,
- Ganesh.

Rashmi,

Thanks for your wishes.

1) did u consider 'Equipment' on BDM, I dont understand how to relate it with the system.

Equipment can be attributed to the 'physical aircraft' which would be attached to the flight.

2)Did u handle seat booking, as there isnt any specific use case for that?
Yes I did. It comes as part of the specified use cases which involves reservations.

3)did u justify in ur notes why u were going for the Distributed or n tier architecutre than just 2 tier.?

Hmm... Not really , because the main requirement of the assignment is the solution should be j2ee. But i did gave a section in the document stating how j2ee address the func/non-functional requirements.

4)n last one ...When it comes to authentication, can u provide some pros and cons of handling it at webserver or appserver level. So that I can choose which one fits best. Or any links please.

Sorry, I am not clearly understanding the point(web/app server level) here.. Can u elaborate it more

Thanks,
Ganesh.

Ganesh, one more question:

Did you show interfaces in "component diagram"? ( as shown in Mark Cade's book)

Thanks,

Prasad

Ganesh,

thanks for ur reply!

So I guess , equipment's existance doesn't affect our class dig. much
Or did u show it in class dig.

By fourth point i meant are you handling security in business tier (using application server features) or at webserver level.

I hope im making sense.

Rashmi,

Yes, equipment can be thought as read - only entity, but i didnt takeout any classes that are already part of the original BDM. If you are removing any, you may have to justify it in the assumption document.

I can't really divulge how I had handled the signon case, but you may want to check the servlet filters pattern.

Hope this help, or else please let me know.

=> I would say, it is just enough to specify in the document and the diagram that, the mode of communication is via SSL.

Ciya,
