Hello all,
Could anybody tell me what's the exact meaning of the following requirement?

the new system must reimplement the database code from scratch without altering the data file format

I've seen that the meaning of "from scratch" is like "from nothing", ie, is this sentence meaning that our system must be capable of create a new datafile?

The essay exam can be done in your native lenguage?

Thanks in advance

Hi Oricio,
it means that you must implement a new program written in Java starting from nothing but the given database interface and the requirements specification.

You do not have to create the database file, you only need to read and update the existing file. Do not forget to save the original file so that you can always go back to your starting point.

I do not think you can do the essay in a language other than English.
