The winners are:

    <h2>
    Mirko Froehlich
    Kartik Shah
    Rob Acraman
    Peter Tran
    </h2>

    I did the judging this time. There were a few entries that were disqualified because their account name did not meet our requirements. There were over a dozen messages that were disqualified because they did not relate to performance or contain any substance. One was disqualified because their profile didn't have an email address so we would have no way to inform them. I also excluded the mountains of messages from Peter - I figured he probably didn't want to win a copy of his own book.
    Winners were chosen using an application called PostSelector written by our very own Bill Compton

Thanks to Javaranch.
It is nice to get a book.
Besides, this Javaranch is an excellent forum for discussing java concept. It certainly do improve our skills.
Thanks all for making it wonderful place to share knowledge!
Thanks to Peter Haggar for his time and valuable comments!

Hey, so that's what that "Allow moderators and other important people to send you email" checkbox is for...

Thanks! Peter Haggar's book is one of my favorite JAVA book, but I'm not sure if I really need three copies now. But hey, I never turned down good technical books.
Peter Haggar - You were right. You must have been able to see the future. Can you give me some lucky lottery numbers? If I win, I'll donate a huge amount to JavaRanch. Furthermore, I'll retire and spend the rest of my days on JavaRanch.
Thanks again for the book. Congratulations to everyone else too.
BTW, the topics brought up were great! Keep them coming.

Congratulations to the winners. I hope the book proves useful to you all.
Peter Tran, Yes, I did call it didn't I. Or, maybe that program that picks the winners is looking for a String equal to "Peter Tran". Or would it be faster if it was looking for a StringBuffer equal to "Peter Tran"...perhaps MyStringBuffer. I'm not sure what you will do with three copies either. I think that's more copies than I have
I have very much enjoyed the last week or two at the ranch and plan on hanging around as the moderator of the performance forum. Thanks to all for participating.

Well, not winning the book only impedes my plans for world domination slightly, so I suppose angry retaliation really isn't all that necessary ... congratulations, guys!

Thanks a lot - I guess I got really lucky this time. :-)
I am looking forward to receiving and reading Peter's book - even though I think I have a pretty good grasp of the language by now, I always enjoy learning more about good Java coding style and performance issues, and this seems to be a great book to teach this and other things.

Mirko,
You'll really like the book - it's one of my favorite JAVA book. It has a lot of good advice and the great thing about it is you can jump around to the different Praxis (i.e. you don't have to read from beginning to end).
Enjoy!
Peter
