Hi ,

I am in search for a good book to start scjp preparation.I know the basics of the language.Detailed explanation of concepts is not required.

I got to know that these two books are good.

1)Sun Certified Programmer & Developer for Java 2 Study Guide (Exam 310-035 & 310-027)
by Kathy Sierra, Bert Bates

2) Head first java
by Kathy Sierra, Bert Bates

Can anyone suggest me which is a good one??

Thank You.

I know both books, and they're both very good!

I'd prefer HF java, because that's written to make you understand and remember what you've read. If you're not familiar with the HF methodology, go see the wickedlysmart website...

OTOH, HF Java is not a book designed as preparation for the SCJP exam...

Hi,
Is this book alone sufficient for the SCJP?

Sun Certified Programmer & Developer for Java 2 Study Guide (Exam 310-035 & 310-027)
by Kathy Sierra, Bert Bates

Thank You

I'll jump in here and say that the study guide book was the only book that I used for the exam, however, I had already learned some Java. I guess what I am saying is that you need to start with HFJ if you need to learn Java but if you know some Java and just want to study for the exam then I think you can get by with just the study guide book.

Hi,

We try to have a focus or intention for each book. HF Java is focused on teaching you basic, fundamental Java. The study guide is designed to prepare you for the SCJP exam... it assumes you already have basic Java skills

HTH,

Bert
