I'd like to start an FAQ for this forum. For those who aren't familiar with the concept, FAQ stands for Frequently Asked Questions. This will be a list of common questions, often asked. The purpose is to avoid duplicated questions. I imagine the FAQ will contain both direct answers, as well as links to various topics within the forum.
This can be a little tricky in this forum. Take the ever popular, "is certification worth it?" topic. On the one hand, it was annoying when asked every other week. On the other hand, the answer may change in 6 months, or people may ask different versions of the question which do desrve further discussion.
Right now I'm looking for suggestions as to what should (or even should not) be included in such an FAQ.

I was under the impression that FAQ stands for 'Frequently Answered Questions.'
Surely you can ask as frequent as possible, but how frequently you going to get an answer is the questions.

It may be a good idea to derive some of the better links for job information since this topic is pretty dynamic.

FAQ---is a good idea for forums where the answers are pretty much stable and straightforward. For Java Ranch I believe the whole idea of this forum is to discuss issues and ask questions even though they may be annoying to some. Look at me I hardly ever post anything yet am a very frequent member to this site, and I am sure there are many like me. Now, If I know there is a FAQ on some of the questions that I or someone else may be interested in asking...I will be reluctant to ask for fear of sounding stupid!. I guess if the question is annoying...don't answer!. I guess people are smart enough to do a search if they really need an answer. I would say instead of a FAQ just a bold heading that suggests people to do a search before posting...
Well, just my 2 cents.

I agree with Badshah. If there was a FAQ that we referred new questions to, I would read once the questions that interest me and not keep coming back to the forum as often. As of now, I always read those "How's the job market" questions in hope someone with insight will say "it is good now!", or "What's the advantage of SCJP or MS" to read the pros and cons from the perspective of new people in the forum.
As is, the forum is not even getting that much traffic.
I'm all for cutting on redundancy and I'm glad the moderator works along the same lines, but I think this is a different case.

Not quite getting the goal of this thread...Seems an odd approach to have users post FAQ'S. The threads here are either technical, or opinion. There's no solid answer to a question of opinion, so that leaves the technical questions.
And answers to technical questions can vary according to experience, style, resources, available software, and even opinion.
Let's have a requirements spec and an example use case of how this thread should progress.

The goal of the thread was given in the last statement of the first post. There seemed to be disagreement on whether an FAQ was appropriate, let alone necessary, so I tabled the idea. However, if people feel there should be one, or anything like it, I will create one.

John I agree with you about faqs being a hard issue for the Jobs Discussion entity.
Have you ever seen USA Today where they have a question like, "Should I get an MBA or an MSCS?"
One writer puts up the pro the other puts up the con.
Just some fodder for disagreement.
At the moment, I'm just lobbying for hot links.
Would the sheriff || wife be offended with www.dice.com, the programmers guild, or the IEEE page on age discrimmination?
Anybody else have a link they think would be appropriate? Please don't be lazy like me, give us the link.
