It is a great honor to welcome both Mike Keith and Merrick Schincariol to JavaRanch this week.

They are promoting their new book "Pro EJB 3.0"

Mike of course should know the EJB 3.0 spec very well, since well, he had a major part in creating it. Mike is the co-specification lead for the spec. And also a very cool, nice guy.

Merrick was a major reviewer for the specification too. Merrick is also very cool and nice.

Both are key employees at Oracle.

We are very lucky to have both of them here this week.

Thanks Mike and Merrick for joining us.

Also, I would like to thank everyone that was part of the EJB 3.0 specification, they did a fantastic job. I was really impressed on how they all worked so well together, putting aside some differences in "competing" technologies.

<Joke>
Maybe we should ask Apress for a 5th copy of the book to give away to the first person who can accurately pronounce Merrick's last name.

Hi Mike and Merrick,
I am new to the EJB world.
I have started working on Enterpriese Appplication for the last 6 months.
I have a basic understanding of Ejb 2 having worked mostly implementing StateLess Session Beans and Web Services.
My question is do I have to read some beginners book of EJB before starting with your book or with a basic knowledge I can start digging inside your book.

Thanks and Regards

No, you do not need any EJB experience. Object-relational experience would help a little when it comes to the advanced concepts, but is not required. We try to briefly introduce every concept, so we would be interested in your comments if you get to parts that you do not find easy to understand.

Thanks,
-Mike

Should I review the book by buying copy in Amazon? Or can I get free book in form of pdf/html to see the contents and review them?

I believe that Apress offers a PDF version of the book for a lesser fee, but you would need to check on the Apress site to see what it is.

Amazon is probably going to be your best bet:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1590596455/103-4428013-6528626?redirect=true&v=glance&n=283155

Reviews and feedback are always appreciated.

If you have questions for the authors. Please create a new thread and ask them there. I am not positive, but I don't believe that questions asked in this thread will be included in the drawing.

Thanks

To be eligible for the drawing, does it need to be a new question thread for the author, or can it be a followup comment/question?
Thanks, Sudd

Sudd,
Follow up posts/questions definitely count! We want to encourage discussion.

From the rules:

Start a new topic or respond to a topic in the Forum where the promotion is running. Your post must be on topic for either the book or the forum to be eligible to win. Posts that simply say "I want to win" are not eligible. Every eligible post gives you an entry into the contest. The more you post, the more chances you have to win.

Basically, a post in any thread in this forum except this one counts.

Thanks Satou, I was trying to find that FAQ, I needed to have posted that in my original post of this thread.
