Whether Browser cache information is stored in the local systems memory(RAM)?

If it is stored in the hard disk, then it's persistence storage. I don't think so.

Why does firefox have a setting that says "Use up to ? KB of disk space for the cache"? Sounds like it's stored on disk to me.

Well, its browser dependant but its going to be on the hard disk. On XP IE caches stuff mostly under C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files. Firefox seems to store it here: C:\Documents and Settings\[urername]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.crm\Cache
