Good day,
I am currently interested in learning the Java language. My questions is what is the best method for learning ? Is it best to learn a language such as c/c++ before Java or is Java better to learn first. Any tips/advice is greatly appreciated. Please not I have no formal programming experience or training

John_boy,

Please change your name to be compliant with JavaRanch's naming policy.
Your displayed name should be 2 separate names with more than 1 letter each. We really would prefer that you use your REAL name.
Thanks,
Cindy
PS: I am also moving this to the Beginner Forum.

You most definitely do NOT need to learn C++ before you learn Java.
Perhaps you should look through the Beginning Java Section of the BunkHouse to find a Book to start learning from.
I really like Just Java 2 by Peter Van der Linden.
