Whatever your position on the Iraq war, the announcement that Libya has chosen to voluntarily dismantle its WMD effort, as well as cooperate with international inspectors, is a promising sign that the war on terrorism is beginning to bear fruit.
There may well be naysayers, but it's pretty clear, at least to me, that America's hard stance on Iraq was directly responsible for Libya's change of heart.

The only problem is, now we will reopen the debate on how to spell Khadafi or is it Qadafi?

I suspect that the same thing that's driven the change from Koran to Qur'an will make Qadafi dominate.

I think Moammar simply went mad. He had a straight path of an evil man, but a glitch in his brain knocked him off course. I wouldn't be surprised if he converts to Christianity very soon, as a futher proof to the West that he is a changed man.

It was probably those 500 pounders that Regan tossed at him that adjusted his brain chemistry.

Apparently the Gaffer has been 'mellowing' for some time, however this article confirms that the Iraq war clinched the deal:

I think we should give him a chance. As the Bible says, God does not desire the death of sinners, but that they should change their evil ways. I mean, unless we plan to kill _all_ the supporters of terrorism -- millions of people -- the only hope for peace is that some of them will change.

Plus, at least part of the goal of Iraq was to send a mesage to Syria, Iran, North Korea, Libya, and any other state that supports terrorism. The message should be that they should behave as civilized members of the world community and if they do we will welcome them back.

I must say that capture of Saddam and this new message have driven my not so important opinion again towards war-might-have-been-good-idea.
But why not concede those traditionally ruthless politicians of the region like Gadafi at least a little bit of activity by himself.
I mean, is every step of Gadafi a reaction towards USA?
Hasn't he have given up partly his criminal attitude before 09/11?
He has aknowledged in the meantime that his secret service have been responsible for the Lockerbie assasinations (bomb explosion of a transatlantic Pan Am flight over Scotland). I mean. This isn't great. Saying "I am killer, but I aknoledge it. Would you please stop those sanctions".
But its better than before. Anyway its good news.
