What exactly do you mean by "database programs"? You can download and evaluate the example programs given in the chapters from the Wrox website, if that's what you mean.

I have reviewed the table of contents and noticed several chapters adressing EJB's. Is the data presented in these chapters intended for advanced EJB developer or beginner/ intermediate?

well, they do not assume any EJB knowledge, if that's what you mean. However, they do build up on the reader's knowledge, and get to some pretty advanced issues, but the reader doesn't need any particular EJB knowledge priorhand.
