If 2 words apart from a single letter are identical yet have diametrically opposed meaning (as happens a lot in ancient languages) you can get very nasty mistakes indeed. Same with punctuation. These differences are a major source of fighting between different religious groups, fighting that has caused many people to be burned at the stake or otherwise killed or maimed as heretics over the centuries.
