If you started watching TV in the late 70s, you'll remember the Lucy Show. We didn't have a TV of our own at that time, so I'd barge into my neighbour's house in the evenings just to see this serial.

Swami ( Hindi )

One of the best TV serial I've ever seen was "Malgudi Days", unfortunately people dont appreciate such type of quality work today.

Ase Pahune Yeti (Marathi)

That was my favourite too ....

It's really so sad that we don't get such quality serials any more. Even the Marathi serials are the clones of the Saas-Bahu dramas.

I remember that whenever "Aapan Yaala Paailat Ka"(Marathi) and "Krishi Darshan" came on , my Dad would switch off the TV (good thing) and me and my brother would have to start doing our homework(bad thing)!!! Then we had to move to Shillong where the only Hindi/English programmes would be after 8.30 PM.

Giant Robot was exciting and so was Star Trek, though I did not understand much of it - Only the machine through which they got transported to another planet/time and when Mr Spock would do one of his "things".

Like here in the West, the Indian producers or whoever has the rights, should come up with DVDs of all the episodes - I recently saw the ones for Star Trek- Original Series in the shops and am planning to give it to my Dad for his 55th bday - I am sure he will be excited. Though I wont be rushing to the shops (or Amazon) to buy DVDs for Rajani or Vikram Betaal, I would love to buy Malgudi Days and Yeh Jo Hain Zindagi.

Man, this is so nostalgic. I miss:-

1) The regional movies with subtitles that used to be shown on Sunday afternoons.
2) Yeh jo hai Jindagi.
3) Malgudi days
4) The world this week.
5) The college quiz compered by Siddharth Basu.

Two serials that they pulled off soon after release:-
1) Subah
2) Honi Anhoni

And suddenly , in between , "News for deaf" comes . Its a break for lunch as our Sunday used to start with Rangoli.. and nothing can be missed in between..
Rangoli, Hum paanch( Bhagyasri's),Secrets of the sea, and agatha christi's stories used come around 12.PM , I guess..

And Surabhi was excellent..

May be, we should have re-runs of these programms like in US..

What was the name of the program where Tabassum used to interview actors/actress? This was in early eighties I believe.

Lets try to make a weekly schedule of all these Series , based on whatever we remember (Day of the week and time , Also approximate year that the series started). If not sure, add a question mark and if someone else remembers, we can then modify it or have debates abt it.

Name Day Time Year
===========================================================================
Yeh Jo Hain Zindagi Friday? 8.30 PM? 1985?
Star Trek Sunday 1986?
Vikram Betal Sunday 1987?
Malgudi Days 9 PM ? 1987?
Vyomkesh Bakshi 1992?

Please copy and paste from the most recent entry and make your modifications.

there was one serial in which they would show clippings of movie.. sponser was ponds cold cream.

And when I remember days without TV, then I feel like how much time I used to have on Sundays.
Full day you can play whatever you want. If it is cold then every sunday mummy would do oil message.

Ahh.. lying on roof top on cot with face in shade and leg in sunlight... now I dont get time to even lie down in sun light.

I miss winters in Bangalore, as here it is not that cold as it is in north.

Its long time I have eaten Moongfalli lying in Rajai with Hari Chutney.

There is only one season in south... "summer with occasional rains."

R K! Do you really think you would ever need rajai in bangalore first.
10 Years have passed me in south and I have not wore my sweater yet.

Aaaha... woh kya jaadon ke din the Faidabad me, early morning the rikshawala would be waiting and how i would hate to leave off from bed and get ready for school.

Ha ha... and there was no score board on the top-right corner of television in those days which would keep you updated during those samachar. and before you connect to samachar we would like to have a break which could be as descent as...
