Its by my hero, Donald Knuth.
Amazon says folks buying it also buy his "Art of Computer Programming" which was manditory reading for anyone serious for decades, but Knuth himself says that it has to be brought up to date, no one cares about assembly programming and optimal sorting on mag tapes. I always found the mag tape sorting interesting, not for the practical advantages, but because it makes you think hard about the problem.
And the ability to think hard about problems to find great solutions is the definition of a Master at programming and design.
