Let's cut to the chase... imagine five years from now, someone wants to get an answer to a question; he or she searches, finds your topic, reads it, and gets the answer. Sound great right?

If you spin off a topic, that is for a very specific question (or even for a broad question, such as "confused with generics"), and then works it to completion. Great. We have no problem with that.

Sorry for coming down a bit hard on this,
Henry

Not at all. What my point is... say if I am reading chapter 6. I come here and see the thread related to chapter 6. Read all the pages and get the idea of the problems and the following discussion that people face while reading that chapter

I don't think its really that bad :P Anyways what you say is right as well Anyways I think I m getting addicted this forums already ;-)

I started long time ago but had to stop.
So I would like to restart with all of you.

I just got my blue belt at blackbeltfactory but feel really not that strong in Java.
I got several books but the SCJP study guide is my fav

Hello there!
Add me to the list of ppl trying to get the SCJP (oopss i meant OCPJP) cert.
Although i have been writing java since 1997, reading through Sierra & Bates book, i realized that:
a) all along i was not writing Java but objective C, in a java 1.3 flavor
b) that there is a full wealth of Java features i was unaware of, and that going from 1.3->1.4 (assert)->1.5(Generics)->1.6(enhanced for loop)
a hell of things were added/improved!

My actual goal is to get the SCEA, but i gotta pass the SCJP first, as we all know!

I have been readying the book for about a little less than a month.

Now some reviews on how i did up to now with studying :
- The book has harder questions than the info it presents.
- I would like the book to be a little more structured and focused, avoiding implicit deductions(like the ones about when to (un)widen/(un)/box, and be explicitly verbose

Anyways, overall, it seems a very nice experience, and a way to actually get better in Java.
It is smth i should have done years ago, but constant job requirements/family didn't leave much time.

Finally my 2 cents to people that have some difficulty with some java concepts:
Java came out of SUN, a major Unix vendor. Java is the child of Unix, C and open computing.
One should get familiar with C and the UNIX programming environment since many concepts between Unix/C and Java are shared.

Just your opinion on this.

I am going through Sirra/Bates for the first time, and in certain chapters' Tests (like ch6 i did this morning, in which i scored the pathetic 53.33%) don't end up well.
Is that considered "normal" even when it is about the first time i go through this?
Does this indicate serious flaws in the way i read chapters and/or write programs?
(for instance there was no way to remember that Console.readPassword() returns a char[] and not a String, of course the method does the right thing making the char[] disposable after it has been used, and avoiding having a string stored in the String pool, it is just like this is hard to detect when looking at the question, or that Integer.equals(long) will always return false).

One final question, which i suppose has been asked many times here,
Do you guys/girls consider Sierra/Bates questions easier/harder/tricky compared to the actual exam?

Hi, everyone, i too have just started preparing for the SCJP /OCJP exam. I just wanted to ask one thing which i feel is very important is, that as i have decide to give the SCJP/OCJP certification exam the code of it is 1z0:851 but the book that i'm using for SCJP/OCJP exam has a code 310-065 on it. I wonder if i'm using the correct preparation book? I need to know the difference between this. Kindly help me. Thanks in advance.
