why does it suck? Because a sub-500 team is going to the playoffs - Boston
while a Utah with an above 500 record is not going ot the playoffs. I really don't care about either team, I just think that it is a joke that your team can suck and still go to the playoffs.
Hopefully football won't increase the amount of teams in the playoffs and have a similar atrocity with their playoff system.

Yea there are too many teams in nhl also, but it is not the case in nfl. You never get a sub-500 team in nfl playoffs. Even a 10-6 team is not always guaranteed a spot.

It is possible to win a division with a sub 500 record and get into the playoffs in the NFL. Not only that you could possibly even host a playoff game.

Fortunately, the proposal to expand NFL playoffs from 12 to 14 teams has been shelved: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1771008. Doing so would have increased the likelihood of sub-.500 teams making the playoffs, which would be an abomination. (Losing teams making the playoffs is one more reason for me to dislike the NBA).
The NFL has had a handful of 8-8 teams make the playoffs but I don't believe that there has been a 7-9 team that has ever made the playoffs.

I checked back a few years. I was sure there was one in the early 90's but I didn't see it.

I would consider baseball worst of the lot when it comes to regular season viewing on TV. Then comes NBA,NHL and NFl at the last.

I agree baseball is bad in the sense that less than half way through the season you know at least half the teams are done for, but the seaosn drags on anyway. But at least in baseball you have to be good to make the playoffs. Sure sometimes a better team does not make it, but at least you don't have any bad teams making it. That is not so in nba and nhl.
Football is the best in that bad teams don't usually make it and the season is short (in terms of the number of games)
Of course the absolute best is soccer but that does not exist in this country at least not to the level of europe or south america.

Most people who want action and intensity look to hockey, football or even basketball.
Baseball is a thinking person's game, notwithstanding the latest ventures into steroid use and mania over power-hitting.
I can't imagine anyone who appreciates South American soccer or cricket finding baseball dull, though, except as a matter of provincial taste.

Oh I like baseball, I'm a big fan of the dark side
I was just pointing out some of its problems.
I wouldn't call it a thinking man's game though. A thinking man's game would be something like chess. But in terms of sport, football has at least as much strategy IMO as baseball.

Except for the pitcher who thinks what to pitch, I have no idea what the thinking mans game baseball can be.
Preference of Soccer/Cricket is because of a aesthetic taste in addition to popular taste(compared to baseball that has following in US+carribbean+Japan).
