Sweep! At least the Canadian men's team is still in the hunt for gold, but alas the women's team choked this morning. 5 points in the 9th end for the guys against USA was awesome.

Pity the Scottish team couldn't quite knock the Fins out. Its such an unusual feeling to have a sport we are actually good at.

I was in Turin on the weekend to just soak in the atmosphere. They had huge TV screens in the main squares and everytime they showed Curling, almost everyone disappeared from the squares. Maybe its being used as a Crowd Disperer Sport : (

Usually I can watch a game for 30 minutes and understand some basic things (how can one win, etc) - Not with Curling, though - Maybe bcos the commentary was in Italian. But yes, How Curling along with Snooker(billiards??) and Darts can be classified as sports, is beyond me !!!

I think we Canadians possess a curling advantage: numbers. I read in yesterday's newspaper that over 90% of the world's curling population is Canadian. I like it because you can drink beer while playing. I even have an attachment that lets me hold my beer bottle on my broom -- being Skip has its priveledges Plus it's easy to keep the two-fours cool on the side of the sheet.

Yeah its more of a game than a sport. But then lets not pick on Curling when the winter olympics contains Ice Dancing, the snowboarding halfpipe and freestyle skiing!

The best way to judge a country's worth is by how many medals they win in the Olympics.

With the advent of smart steroids and what advantage they can give to athletes from advanced countries, I have to totally disagree with your logic.

Hey Kishore,

I'm pretty sure John was being sarcastic

Now, back to the Olympics - we use our tv only to watch dvds, but I bought an antenna just for the olympics - so we have a snowy picture, but we're watching! I can't believe they did 50' aerials in the fog - that's just nuts!

A supporter of the Indian soccer team. I allways wondered if there really is one.
Indians in general don't appear to take the game too serious.

Watched BBCs figure skating coverage last night, and thoroughly enjoyed it partly because they took the time to explain the technical elements of what otherwise looks like a gymnast on a huge ice rink! They also did a pretty decent job of explaining the build up to the big final 27 year old Irina Slutskaya who have won gold everywhere but Olympics, and beautiful Sasha Cohen seems to be the biggest threat, but the Japanese girl (cant remember her name Ayakawa?) did a clean and very elegant four minutes while others lost it all to the pressure of expectation! It was a good final!

Ashok,

Since India are faring badly in almost all games (leave out cricket....just 8 good teams in the world), may be its time for us to switch over to Gymnastics or Ice-Skating, where entertainment doesent lie only in watching the technicalities of the game (think .. ).

Two more things on my mind:

1. What is up with the medal design? They look like a cross between a CD and a gigantic washer!

2. Nude Curling Calendar

Well, I saw Hira Lal doing well in the men'ss Alpine Skiing, and that lasted for about 4 seconds - he crashed, like a first-timer on snow. But in fairness he was not the only one.

I didn't get your joke until I realized that you weren't talking about peameal bacon. Are you sure you're Canadian?

Wouldn't back bacon make for better curling jokes? (as in what happens when you slip on the ice and land on your ...)
