I like to read fiction. Recently, I read HitchHiker's Guide to Galaxy and loved it! And now, I want to try humor novels. If you have read any that you liked, please share.

Thanks in advance.

@Sagar: I tried reading one of P.G Wodehouse books; I couldn't complete it. It was very so-so. I can't even recall its name!
@Pat: I read the wiki entry for The girl, gold watch and everything and I think I will add it to my list.

Many thanks for your suggestions...

If you want something similar in feel to HitchHiker's Guide, try "Bill, the Galactic Hero" (I read it when I was 14 and laughed myself silly)

A very funny book I read a while ago was called "My Cousin, My Gastroenterologist"

Also, try God Bless You Mr. Rosewater by Kurt Vonnegut.

Hi,
When you wrote,

I tried reading one of P.G Wodehouse books; I couldn't complete it. It was very so-so. I can't even recall its name!

I take it that you were being funny.

Try his Blandings Castle series or Jeeves and Wooster series. If you read a couple of books from these, you would develop a taste and then probably want to read all of Wodehouse.

Also,
try Jerome K Jerome's Three Men In A Boat. You won't forget the dog Montmorency.

Well, if you liked the Hitchhiker Guide, you can also read the other four books in the Hitchhikers Guide "Trilogy".

Yes, Henry is right, the obvious answer is: read the other books of the hitchhiker's guide series.

I have to admit that personally I think the last two books are not quite as good as the first three - don't get me wrong, they are still quite good...

The two (and a half) books of the Dirk Gently series are very funny, too.

Some recomendations beside Douglas Adams:

- Fool on the Hill by Matt Ruff
- American Gods by Neil Gaiman
- Wilt by Tom Sharpe

I also like some books by Robert Rankin (e.g. The Brentford Triangle) and Christopher Moore (e.g. Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal)

And I think you know Terry Pratchett?

I tried to list especially books with a special kind of humor, because these will fit best to the hitchhiker's guide.

I hope you will find something worth reading..

Have fun!

John

Thank you Tim,Amit,Henry and John for your replies!

@Amit: I think, I read P. Smith the Journalist. It didnot appeal to me that much to be honest. But I might try his other books - one those you mentioned - sometime.

When I started this post, I had already borrowed a copy of "The Ultimate HitchHikers Guide to Galaxy" - the omnibus. I am almost done reading it. I started this post in advance just so that I have options to select the next book.

Well, the problem with PG Wodehouse books at least for me, is the English vocabulary used. I need to look for some 8-10 words per page and that rune whole humor while reading
