Hello everybody,

while searching for job openings, i found that SAP is all the rage right now (India). i am quite curious why is this happening?? Is SAP a better language??? is it more robust than Java technologies??
please provide some useful guidance relevant to this .

SAP is not a language -- it's a company. In fact, it's one of the largest companies in the world.

They build products for the ERP space. And as for languages, I am sure that they have products in all technologies, especially Java.

Yea. As with any company with a really large product line, that has been developed over many decades, they also include components that have languages specific to their product.

You want to compare a product specific language to a general purpose programming language?

Anyway, to answer your question...

Its not all about the technology (or the language), its about the domain. SAP plays in the ERP, supply chain, CRM, etc. space. To be successful as a SAP developer, you need to know more than the technologies (languages, APIs), you need to understand how the product is used -- and how everything in that space works.

As far as I know to a certain degree you can also develop in Java within the SAP-world. Maybe interesting for you: https://forums.sme.sap.com/thread.jspa?threadID=179316&tstart=0

Learn and use ABAP and you are tied to SAP. Use Java and you are free to use it in SAP or elsewhere. Interesting in SAP as a Java developer should not be ABAP, but rather the functional areas.
