I'm thinking of getting an iPhone 4, but my girlfriend is seriously against. (yeah yeah I know henpecked like a ..?)

Can anyone think of good arguments for me to get this gadget, and to stay on good terms with her. I'm thinking of diving into development at a later stage but not sure whether that will bring in extra money on the short or middle term.

I'm also not really a game addict (although I like harbor master)

regards,
Jeroen.

Buy it and ask forgiveness later.

Seriously, does she have any good reasons against?

I don't have one because my "good reason" is that not even an Apple product can make get into bed with AT&T again. Now that the iPhone is available for Verizon, I may reconsider. But, as a current Verizon customer, I'm not eligible for an upgrade until the end of the year.

I do have an iPod Touch that I love -- but it'd be great not to have to carry both my iPod and my LG phone around.

getting one with the aim to go into dev work is a good reason.
My wife has an iPhone, I have an android.
Personally I think that iPhones are great for some but not suitable for others. I'm not implying that this says anything positive or negative in either camp.
What the iPhones do, they do very well. This comes coupled with some restrictions that prevent some things from being possible but some will find this doesn't suit them. In my case I wanted the flexibility and looked forward to spending the time messing around with my phone. My wife wants a smart phone that works more or less out of the box, helps her do some funky stuff and doesn't get in her way.

I realise this is more of a compare-and-contrast but I hope it helps.

I guess your girl friend is against iPhone because once it is in your hands, you will not find any time for her.

I got an Android-phone (Samsung Galaxy S) and the advantage (an di think for a user its like the same thing!) for me was the price: oh yeah, it was cheaper ;)

but beeing honest: there are more apps (with good quality) in the iphone market... BUT i changes... so that's my option..

"Mac Android"

Please change your display name to meet the JavaRanch Naming Policy of using your real first and real last names. This and being nice are our only two rules.

Thanks for understanding.
