Sun ePractice (77%) vs. real exam (what could I expect percentage-wise)

Hi Ranchers,

I've been a rancher for a while but have been a silent SCEA/OCMJEA forum member until now.

I have purchased the ePractice exam from Sun/Oracle and scored 77% in the first exam (first attempt).

I've been studying for about 3 weeks now..

Question:

I would assume that the real exam is harder than the ePractice exam - so with my above score of 77%, what would you say is a realistic mapping to the real exam (i.e 77% in ePractice MAY be CLOSE to 57%, etc).

Many thanks,
Mars

Anyone?

I'd just like to know your thoughts at a high level. I know it depends on my knowledge and confidence - but I would really appreciate your input so that I can evaluate if I'm ready or not.

Thanks,
Mars

That's a very good score. Sun's ePractice is the best package for preparing for SCEA5 compared to Whizlabs and others. But real exam is much harder than Sun's ePractice so i will say unless you are scoring in the 90's - you are yet not ready.

Thanks Sharma. I appreciate your feedback.

I was thinking on the same lines. Hopefully one more month of hard study should do it.

Thanks again.

Marcelo,

I have taken first exam and I got 87%. I took the second ePractise in office after having nice lunch and got magical score 78% (7 & 8 in both tests ) I feel the second one was harder. After taking the second test I did not review the wrong questions as I thought to do it in the night. Magically both the tests are not in my profile any more.

If I remember correctly, Oracle allows to see the tests for 6 months. Is this correct? Anybody, please?

BTW, I am appearing in exam next week & we will be able to map the score of ePractise and real exam. AT this time, I think, 87% & 78% in ePractise should be equal to (87+78)/2 - 15 = 65 to 67% in real exam. -

In the worst case minus of 8 to 10 more so 67-10=57 -

I want passing score, not the fancy one..

Rajan,

Good score.. Please post actual exam score here once you have taken the test, to see how it compares to the ePractice exam.

Yes, you have 6 months to use the ePractice exams. I too had a similar issue, but in my case the score changed in subsequent logins to the system - very weird!

I'm sitting for the exam early May - I will also post my results here for others to compare.

To be quite honest, I think that Mark Cade's questions (from book) are easier than the ones in the ePractice - so we may end up getting a similar score to that of the ePractice.

Cheers,
Marcelo

Based on experience, your 77% in the Sun's practice exam (assuming you are consistently scoring that), could go + or - 10 on the real exam.

You can get 67 to 87, or higher.

Try scoring higher. Dont repeat the same mock test.

Mock test is useless, if you dont review what topics you missed on that mock test. Review it, and review topics you missed.

SCEA is high-level, and a lot of common sense (and good sleep, relaxed and alert mind; dont hesitate to take red bull or coffee before taking the exam) will save your day. You need educated guesses if that is needed.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the tip Jesus.

So coffee or red bull huh , I like that theory!

Did you read SCEA Study Guide 2nd Ed. (by Cade and Sheil)? If so, would you say they are very similar to that of the real exam? I scored mid-70's in Cade's questions also.

Cheers,
Marcelo

Its been too long; I dont remember which version of Cade's book I used.

It is good that you are using various mock exams. Just identify which topics you are weak on.

Make sure that the books or mock exams you use, consider 100% of the topics in the exam (see if they claim so in their intro or somewhere).

There is no single book like Head First SCWCD that somehow 'guarantees' your passing, but these materials you use now, helps a lot. But make sure that all topics for the exam are covered by these materials.

Thanks Ashutosh. Score is not satisfactory but it's really a great experience.
