I would not recommend "Learning Java For Android Development". Please read the review at http://timewasted.net/?p=190. I found that the book was difficult to read and made not connection to Android.
I recommend Mark Murphy's books "The Busy Coder's Guide to Android Development" and "Android Programming Tutorials". After starting these 2 books I was able to create my first usable Android app quite quickly.

Sorry this is not a book but serves the purpose equally well in a classroom kind of setup.
