A new version of
Java 7 is out: update 40.
The update version jumped from 25 to 40, probably to indicate that it contains more than just security fixes and bug fixes. There are some interesting new features, according to the
release notes:
Support for Retina displays on Mac OS X
Java Mission Control - advanced features for monitoring your JVM, although I think this is a commercial feature for which you need to pay Oracle if you want to use it
JDK for Linux ARM with hard float support - which means there's finally a good JDK for the Raspberry Pi
New timezone data, security fixes, bug fixes
