Hi ,

I am taking the Oracle Java certification for the first time.(i have not done any Java certifications before)

Which one to take among OCPJP 6 or OCPJP 7 ?

If OCPJP 7 , how it is different from OCPJP 6 . What are the extra topics needs to be covered.?

Please provide me some reference books and some mock tests links also if any.

Please help me in this.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to CodeRanch!

Please take a look at our Scjp 6 FAQ and OCPJP 7 FAQ. They answer a lot of the questions you are asking.

In a nutshell, the SCJP (OCJP) 6 allows you to get certified by taking one exam instead of two but uses an older version of Java. If your goal is to get certified as quickly/for the least amount of money, the OCJP 6 is your best bet. If your goal is to learn Java/get a job, the OCAJP and OCPJP 7 exams will be more beneficial.

If you intend to use OCPJP as a prerequisite certification to other certification path (ex. OCMJD), then I'll settle to taking OCPJP6, saves me a lot of money. And also the consideration of preparation materials available for OCPJP6 compared to 7.

You can also do OCPJP 6 and then upgrade to OCPJP 7.

I've read about this kind of thing at the checkout counter. That's where I met this tiny ad:
