Ok. It turned out the be a kernel issue. The problematic version was 3.13.0-45-generic
First I noticed my boot loader was gone. So I download the
boot repair disk
Burnt it and rebooted on it. It presented me a very simplistic and intuitive UI where I went with the recommended option.
Reboot.
In the boot options, I first tried with the 3.13.0-45-generic(recovery mode). No luck. Same problem. Keyboard doesnt work. Mouse kaput.
Reboot.
Then I selected 3.13.0-44-generic and no problems at all.
On a related note, I tried to uninstall Virtual Box in 3.13.0-44-generic and like last time it failed.
