This still would be better in the Oracle Forum.
You can use exp and imp to transfer data from one to another

on that note of imp and exp in the context of Oracle 8i (8.1.7):
I have seem the following:
full export
move .dmp file to another machine
full import
errors about tables with $ signs in their names already existing.
How does a person avoid that? Is it harmful?

Import the tables using the ignore=y parameter This will instruct imp to ignore the existence of the objects and to proceed to import the data.
