Vote here: I'm studying for the SCJP 1.5 exam

SCJP 5 here.

why? it is newer, more future proof. Why study something that is almost outdated? afterall, java 5 has been out for 2 years or so.

of course if u intend to do 2nd level certs like those J2EE developers certs, u can go for 1.4. they don't exactly require SCJP 5.

I will give the vote for 1.5 SCJP. I would like to take a chalange. SCJP 5 is tougher but the level of difficulty needs to be stepped up a touch. The topics covered need to be broader.
.....my logic take the latest one which is covering bothe old as well as the new advanced topics.....

preparing for java 5 looking forward!!

java 5 looking forward!!

Always looking forward to the latest features and being a bit lazy.... I am waiting for Dolphin and SE6. A couple of more years or so.

I am preparing for SCJP 5 because its latest.IT developers have to be latest with their knowledge.

Currently studying for the 1.5 exam.

Even though I already have the 1.2 exam done, so much in the language has changed that I decided to retest.

This begs the next question: why test at all?
1) The exam gives me a defined quantity of material that I need to know. I can set reasonable expections to completion.
2) There are tangable reqults. (a certificate)
3) An independant 3rd party vouched that I know java to some known standard.
4) As a developer I still need to know the stuff on the exam anyways.
5) It proves to future employers that I continued to work on improving my skills.

I study for the tiger (1.5) release. There is good book
by head first to help you with the study tests.

I study 1.5 cause it's newer. Soon 1.4 will be depricated :-)

Previously I was also in a deliemma to go for SCJP1.4 or SCJP 5.
But after few suggestions and self analysis, I landed in the result to opt for SCJP 5..

becoz SCJP 5 is after all is the TIGER version in the JAVAWORLD.
And it is a revolution again in the javafield..

Thats why I am preparing for SCJP 5.

I am preparing for 1.5.
The reason is simple, i want to be updated with 1.5.
Also 1.5 seems to be more interesting with enum,varargs,boxing...
these all are cool stufs

I am also preparing for SCJP 1.5 for simple reasons

1. Its the best way to learn new features added to java
2. Exam moves from cramming to understanding of concepts which suits me well
3. Regular Expression is one nice reason to go for TIGER, thats gonna be one of the best things I would learn while preparing for 1.5

I've been studying for 1.5 for a few months now. I look at SCJP as a first step to completing SCWD. By the time I complete that, I hope 1.5 will be more popular in the industry.

I am getting back to Java after spending 3 years doing Oracle db work. I have a big gap to cover anyways, so it makes sense to go the whole way and do 1.5. Moreover, the Tiger release has major new features like Generics, Varargs, Auto-Boxing, enums that, IMHO, will change the nature of coding and design in Java.

And yes, no convoluted bit operations questions!!

I am also preparing for SCJP1.5 . Reasons are

1. Its new ..and i can learn new features and the way to use it.
2. Challenging too ...

But i have a doubt.. If Java 6.0 (Mustang) is already in beta stage... Will the Industry directly migrate to java 6.0 rather than going for java 5 and again to java 6 ??

scjp 1.5 i want do some thing diffrent to other people. and i enjoy to accepts the challenges.

1. I'm a newbie.
2. It's a goal oriented, structured way to learn Java.

Using the K&B book, and have ordered Core Java Vol I Fundamentals, and
Vol II Advanced Features to help.

I have been thru the Head First book already.

Just started this week.

When Java certification came to my mind, I searched for the details,
The SCJP 1.5 objectives are challenging to prepare and i've read its tougher than 1.4,
I'ld like to take the harder way and achieve in that.
Thats Why i opted to take SCJP 1.5.
