Hi all,

I am happy to announce that the book has been printed and would hit the shelves in various major bookstores in India this week or next. It is being published by Tata McGraw Hill, the India wing of McGraw Hill. The publishers are diligently working on getting the book out in Amazon as well, but it may take some more time (maybe a couple of weeks more). I will post an update when that happens as well.

The title of the book is "SCMAD Exam Guide".

Hi Satya,

I have been searching the internet to know more about your book. Unfortunately, I can't see anything except the cover image. Could you please give us a link of some sample chapter. Also, did any one review it? A link to the review?

Many thanks in advance!

We are waiting for the link from the publisher. We (the authors) received our sample copies a few days back and were told that the book would hit the shelves around the same time in India. I am awaiting further information for other countries though.

I don't have sample chapters from the publisher, but I will pass the question to them.

Hi Sathya,
I was very much interested in this particular thread where there were so many requests for a single book to complete SCMAD.
I really appreciate your effort in trying to bring this book. Thanks a lot!!!

Hoping to get a copy ASAP.

Hi Sathya,

Congratulations that your book has hit the shelves finally. I was eagerly looking for some material for the SCMAD exam. Am residing in Hyderabad, India.

Yesterday I bought the book, " J2ME: the Complete Reference". While waiting for my vendor to order this book, could you tell me if the Complete Reference covers all the required Objectives for the exam. I have just started reading it. I have only 6 weeks to give the exam.

Thanks,
Jophy

Hi Jophy,
"J2ME: the Complete Reference" contains more than what you'll need for the exam. Since it is not the exam-targeted book, it doesn't cover some aspects of the exam objectives. Many SCMAD exam aspirants also read the Knudsen's Wireless Java for more coverage.

But I would recommend you our "SCMAD Exam Guide" to tackle each and every exam objective.

Hi Ko Ko,

I just saw some code examples from the book(?) at your website. Could you please put a sample chapter online? Many thanks in advance!
Though your publisher is from India, the book is still not available in the market, at least in Hyderabad. And there is no use of their website. They didn't mention about your book at all on their website. Please ask them to do us a favor - at least update their online catalog! It is frustrating to see "void".

Thanks!

Want to add a comment regards "SCMAD Exam Guide" - It would have been great if you had also put in aone or two, full length Mock question papers along with the answers at the end of the book.

Since all exam simulators have become very expensive now

Dear Ko Ko / Sathya

In the "SCMAD Exam Guide", o page 47, Fig 3.2; the minimum memory requirement has been printed as 190 KB. I believe this has to be 192 KB.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your comments and suggestions so far and to Jane for pointing out an error. I have setup a companion site - http://www.scmadbook.com - for the book and have posted some relevant information about the exam (along with my notes) there. We hope to keep adding content to the site in future such as some mock questions tips & tricks, projects you can try to learn more about J2ME, along with errata on the book (Jane's comment has been posted already).

Do let us know if you have any suggestions on content that you would like to have there. We are also actively working with the publishers to provide a list of locations where the book may be sold. We will update that section as soon as we get some info from them.

I agree it would be helpful. Unfortunately, we had to drop it due to time constraints. The fact that all the authors had previously authored exam simulators (from Whizlabs and Enthuware) also has made it difficult to come up with unique questions within the time frame. That said, we still have added 10 questions at the end of each chapter (totaling 100 questions) along with detailed answers that should help in the exam preparation. We'll also try our best to add some sample questions on the companion website.

Hi,

You can find a list of places where the book will be available here: http://www.scmadbook.com/index.php/Book. Our publishers have also informed us that it will be available soon in Amazon. I will post an update when that happens.

In the meanwhile, if you happen to be in India, you can order the book online here: http://www.grenleaf.com/idtitle.aspx?titleid=1295&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

Thanks!

Hi Sathya,

Do you have the source code for the listings in the book "SCMAD Exam Guide" somewhere? I have the book and would like to execute the examples given there, without typing it out. Could not locate it on the companion site for the book.

Hi Ko Ko,

Want to put down a couple of things that I noticed in the Book and the listing page-

1.) In the code listing for Chapter 4, you have missed the listing 4.7, for the main application - the AlarmMIDlet. Would appreciate if you can add it, as it is kind of big.

2.) In the book, on page 106, Static Declaration section, line 8, a small typo. "Rush Registry" printed instead of "Push Registry".

Hi,

The source code for all the chapters of the book have been posted and available at http://www.scmadbook.com/index.php/Code. We are working on providing additional information such as compiling code and also a zipped version of the code itself. It will be available shortly.

Hi,

I'm trying to run the timer application listed in Ch.4 of the book. I am using Eclipse IDE to build the project and package it. Have manaully edited the jad to ensure it matches the requirements. . But on opening the jar file from the Nokia S40 emulator, gives me error, "Invalid Application".

The HelloWorld listing in the same chapter works fine from the emulator. Any clue?

Hi Jane,

I think it might be better if you use a new thread for some of your questions. Since this thread is about the general topic of books for SCMAD, and your questions are getting very specific (down to specific examples in a specific book using specific emulators and specific IDEs) I think you might get better exposure if you open a new topic for them.

Following this advice, I have been posting some questions related chapters 6 and 7 of the SCMAD Exam guide book, as new topics. But am not getting any answers for the same. Could you please answer them? They are under SCMAD group itself.

Kind regards,

Hi,

I have sent a request to our publishers asking the status of the book's availability in Amazon or other non-India retailers. I will update when I get a response.

Bert Bates wrote:Hi Guys,

Thanks for the encouragement! We'd really, really like to write an ME book! I just responded in another thread that my guess is the reason ME hasn't taken off is because the phone manufacturers can't seem to agree on any standards, so deploying an app across different phones is such a big pain!

What surprises me is that big companies don't pick a type of phone for their employees, and write apps for that specific phone?

I belive it's evident from the kind of structure/architecture is there for j2me in terms of configurations and profiles...
but dont you think that ultimately its gonna end up with java SE with many-fold increase in cell-phone processing power and memory capacities.

But I wonder why would it be a issue when java was initially created with this kinda purpose in mind! may be java guys are yet to ascertain the lowest possible n workable uniform api across cluttered fragment of hand-held devices o/s n hardware. but then they have also released spec for Real-time Java! I dont get this.
