I'm a masters student in India. I have to do a project this semester and iam thinking of doing something related to eclipse. I am thinking of developing some plug-in or a rich client platform application using eclipse. I would like to have a suggestion from you. There were several ideas from friends but i dont find anyone interesting. I thought somebody at javaranch can give a idea. I would be great full if you just give it a thought.

Take a look at some of the projects at java.net.

You can browse at Sourcefourge to get an idea.

As far a project ideas, you can think of developing a Decompiler plugin.

There is not much support from any of the opensource decompilers for JDK 1.5.

You can pick one and extend the support for JDK 1.5
