Changing location of parent window from child

Child window is unable to change the location of parent window, if i change the location of paent.
I am using following code in child window to change the location of parent.
window.opener.location.href="blank.htm".
Its works fine, if i didnt change the parent window location(if i didnt traverse to some other page in parent).But if i did its not loading anything in parent.

When you travel away from it, you loose the object of the window open command so you loose control with the child window.
The only way around it is to use frames, but that is a mess.
