Do digital watermarks actually protect an image in any way? What are they good for? I've got several images for a website I am doing for someone's art work and the best thing I can think to do is overlay an actual watermark image on all the images but I also read some stuff on digital watermarks but don't know if they are good for anything.

Thanks.

They actually do not protect the image from people taking it. It embeds 'noise' into the image that actually is a way to prove it is yours.
