Is there anyway to retain the formattin from data in a buffer when passing it a text area or input field?

The data I am retrieving is fed to a buffer from the mainframe. Since there are no line breaks, when I bring the data over as text, it merges together and it loses readability.

Can't the server code that is getting the data from the mainframe format it with line breaks?

I don't think so because it "scrapes" the information directly from the mf screen.

And is your problem that line breaks don't show up when the data is rendered in HTML (because HTML is designed to replace line breaks by spaces) or is it that there are no line breaks at all in what you got from the mainframe?

Whatever is scraping the code from the mainframe needs to produce a line break (\n) since the HTML is only going to be able to do what it is told.
