Welcome to JavaRanch.

I wouldn't think that OpenOffice supports anything like this, since OO is a cross-platform application. ActiveX controls only work in one particular browser on one paricular operating system. Can you afford not to support everybody else?

Standard JavaScript (i.e., without using ActiveX controls) has no facilities to do file I/O of any kind.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
