Hi Jane,
Look in http://www.w3c.org/Signature/ at Publicly Available Code, Tool Kits & SDKs and Background sections and may be this http://www.wedgetail.com/xmlsecurity/examples.html

I'm still not clear on using xmlsignature with servlets..

Thanks to you all.
I have another question:
Can I encrypt just an attribute value in an
element using XML encryption?

Hi Jane,
Just a tip.
The above link given my Map shows how to encrypt Credit Card Number element alone. Why don't you just give a try to see how it can be done for attribute. If its difficult why don't change ur attribute to element
