Hi,

I have to give presentation on rational unified process to senior management, and I don't have idea of it.

Please input something.

Thanks a ton.

It sounds a process question. Why not paste it in Agile and other Process forum?

Useful info is available on WikiPedia.

IBM provides a datasheet. The figure 2 on page 3 is what everyone shows when presenting the RUP.
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/rational/web/datasheets/RUP_DS.pdf

The Rational Edge e-zine often runs articles on RUP. They have an archive specific for RUP articles.

The wikipedia article is a very good overview. Probably if you google around you can find already made presentations (I saw many of them).
One important (often overlooked) advantages of RUP is risk management, (I did an entry on my blog about it: RUP and risk management). I believe the initial focus on scope and architectural risks driven by the focus of the inception and elaboration phases, is one of the characteristics that differentiate RUP from other iterative-incremental process.
You can contact also your local IBM-Rational office, probably they can easily arrange a presentation (If they smell a sell, they will run to you! )

Also look at the "Open Unified Process" which is an open source subset of IBM/Rational's RUP products. It's a free part of the Eclipse Process Framework (EPF) tool that builds and publishes process documentation. You can explore OpenUP through EPF.

There is also some good pointers in the dmoz directory (http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Programming/Methodologies/Unified_Process/). I found the link http://www.appropriateapproach.com/resources/rupimp.html especially interesting. On a more general approach to UP (without the R), you could read the article "Understanding the Unified Process" published in the Spring 2002 issue of Methods & Tools (http://www.methodsandtools.com/mt/download.php?spring02)
