I hope my question is not too weird, but I was wondering - is there any relationship between a PMP and an MBA ? I know one is a certification, and the other a degree, but what other similarities and differences do they have ? Is PMP complementary, or does it add to the value of MBA ? Or diametrically opposite, would PMP be a substitute for MBA, for a person who has been a project manager from a long time but does not have the time / inclination to pursue MBA degree ?
There are some project managers out there with MBA and PMP but no technical background whom has very poor self, emotional and temper control. often lashes out at team members when under pressure. Has no respect for technical personnel and think everything is so easy to do. Also has no understanding in the methodology in an IT project. [ December 04, 2007: Message edited by: Billy Tsai ]

Both MBA and PMP require general management skills (planning, accounting, and etc) and interpersonal skills (leadership, motivating, communicating, and etc).

well thing is that some of the PM i mentioned in my previous post has very poor interpersonal skills, showed no real leadership and never ever motivated any of the technical team members and sometimes use verbal insults on programmers which caused very low team morale

PMI randomly selects certain applications for audit. If selected for Audit, you are required to provide proofs of experience and education, which includes experience certificates from the employers that you have used and educational qualification information.
During an audit, candidates will be asked to submit supporting documentationm, such as copies of their diploma/global equivalent, signatures of their supervisor(s) or manager(s) from the projects(s) documented on the Experience Verification Forms, and copies of certificates or letters from the training institute(s) for each course submitted to meet the required 35 contact hours of project management education.

To me, this random audit, especially when the probability of "random" is not specified , means that a person who shows up with a PMI certificate has most likely not been checked against all those formal prerequisites.
