Hi,
At last, I passed the scjp 1.4 yesterday. I'd like to appreciate Dan Chisholm and all of javaranch. Dan's single topic questions really helped me a lot.
For the past 3 years, I, as software engineer, have been working in IT. My main role is not only coding in C++, and perl, but analyzing system. Unfortunately, it is true that I was very beginner for java. My preparation was only for 6 weeks. It was as following...
1) Getting Started and Learning the Java Language
I read these tutorials 2 times.
2) Java2 Certification last minute tutorial
This one was really good preparation in order to understand the scjp exam objectives. This part is important part to prepare the exam.

3) Dan's Topic Exams
Dan's Topic questions were really great help to improve my problem solving skill. I studied all topic questions. I strongly recommend you Dan's topic exams. I spent most of times on this part.
4) Lastly, Marcus Green ,John Hunt,BarryBoone mock exams, and Velmurugun notes
I finalized with these sources.
For your reference, I didn't purchase any exam materials, even books. All of listing above were enough to prepare the exam. I felt all questions were not hard as I thought. It was hard a bit for me to solve about 5 questions. Threads questions wasn't that much hard as I heard here.
One more thing to say, on my exam day, I had some minor problems at the exam place. While I was taking the exam, the screen was gone to black many times. They said it was the prower problem. This made me so nervous. Because of this, not only I wasted about 10 minutes, but couldn't concentrate on marked questions. I didn't complain much about this. Be careful to select the place to take the exam.
Now I am watching the World Series baseball game.
