Hie,

I am a java developer and I am not so good with databases... as in I understand the basic concepts but I have never written stored procedures myself neither have I written any triggers or complex queries.
I want to learn it but I dont want to get totally in depth knowlege of databases as a DBA.. so I thought of giving OCA exam.
Now I cant decide which one to give- 9i or 10g and both of them look very different in their course coverage?
Which one is most suited to my needs...?

please advice..

Thanks

Since your are in the initial stage and aiming for a developer track , I feel you can better try Oracle 9i Sql ( 1Z0-007) and the other exam for Pl/Sql ( Not sure about the exam code I think it's 1Z0-147 )

Hi Anjali and Srinivasa.

What about self study materials for 1Z0-007 and 1Z0-147 ? Are there any self-study kit avaiable for these exams?

Thanx.

Regards,
Barry.

Hi Anjali,

Thanks for the post! This was exactly what I was looking from a couple of weeks.
My investigation is for Basic Oracle

1z0-007 has basic sql and advanced sql
1z0-001 has basic sql and pl sql

I prefer 1z0-007 to kick off and then write another plsql

Thanks

Murali,

Preparation time varies for each individual. It depends upon your experiance in oracle, you reading & understanding capability. I feel it shouldn't take more than a month for this exam.
As I said in my previous post OCP Introduction to Oracle9i: SQL Exam Guide by Jason Couchman is one of the good books for Sql exam

Hi Barry,

Recently I bought the Sybex study guides for 1Z0-007 (Biju Thomas). Albeit I've read only the first chapter, I think it is sufficient to take a good shot at the exam. I chose this book over the offical study guide because I felt it had better reviews.

Hi,

Oracle basically has two developer certifications paths:
PL-SQL - It a certification language test, like SCJP
Forms - Its is a proprietary web based GUI used by Oracle only.

The "Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate" (OCA) certification requiresd the following exams:

1Z0-001 Introduction to Oracle: SQL and PL/SQL.
1Z0-147 Program with PL/SQL

I used the following books:
- Oracle 8i Certified Professional - SQL & PL/SQL Exam Guide (Exam 1Z0-001)
Jason S. Couchman - ISBN 0-07-219153-8
- Very good book. Covers all the exam subjects

- Oracle Developer PL/SQL Program units exam guide (Exam 1Z0-101)
Steve O' Hearn - ISBN 0-07-219336-0
- Very good book as well. Unfortunately it covers only 80% of the exam. Some topics for 1Z0-147 are not covered. You have to search for additional sources.

I personally recommend, Feurstein books. They are the bible for any PL-SQL developer.

At [ UD: removed links to copyrighted material ]
you can find some old editions of PL-SQL books. They are still valid for certifications purposes.

Good luck in your exam!!
