Congratulations to Jim Yingst, whose Map software has generated no less than 3000 posts!
While unable to fulfill Jim's vision of 100% meaningless content-generation, the program that posts as 'Mapraputa Is' has managed an estimated 99.44% noise-to-signal ratio in its messages -- close enough to call it pure!
Congratulations again Jim!

Michael, you got it wrong again. (surprise, surprise! )
"99.44% noise-to-signal ratio" should be "99.44% signal-to-noise ratio". Jim would certainly correct you, but he is currently too busy maintaining the errata page for Japanese edition of RHE.
Anyway...
Congratulations, Jim!

Thank you, thank you. I am of course immensely proud of my achievement. Well, most of the time. As for the meaning of the 99.44% stat - well, one person's signal is another's noise. As Meaningless Drivel shows us every day. In any event I am pleased to see that between the two of us, Michael and I are succeeding in getting Map to use up her full allocation of smilies per post. (At least, until she figures out how to circumvent the current restrictions.) Looking forward to 3000 more.

That is some software Jim!!
Have you had it Turing tested?
How does it handle unexpected situations outside of the forums?
Is is pure Java I assume?
Has it played big blue in chess?
Dave

congrats Map!!!

Well, since we know that there are some warps in her positronic brain patterns, Turing testing might be useless.
However it might be fun to do some Stress testing.
I can think of some publishers that might be willing to help with this. . . not to mention authors.
Also, Dave, note that the pure Java concept has been tainted by over-exposure to XML and XSLT .

b4 starting my reply lemme announce that i m totally
First i thaught after reading this thread that Ernest is joking telling Map as a software instead of human being...
Then i thaught that Ernest is actually congratulaing Map for 3000 posts really as Map's post i c now is 3005.
Then i suddenly started to think that our so well-known Map with whom i participated in some good threads is not a human being really....a s/w or a robot....
Then when went to rita's site i found she is a computer programmer for many years. So she must be a human being....
Now i m thinking that Map is a s/w only created by Jim Yingst....Oh, help me ranchers...
And yap, lemme know abt the Map s/w whether she is a human or a s/w thru a good URL...
Congrats Map if u r a human but/and congrats Jim if Map is a s/w ....

Marilyn, from now on "Michael" should be called "Ernest". Thank you, Ashik!
So your sentence will be "Ernest is just giving Map a hard time (as usual)."

Congrats!
With that much traffic, we may need to split MD into two forums, "Meaningless Drivel" and "Map Only"...

The Map software is based on a real Russian programmer/spy who was captured by the CIA several years ago. She is presently the only prisoner on Alcatraz Island where she gives tours 3 times a day. Unfortunately her tours are nearly as incoherent as the posts by the software named after her.
