Hi guys!

I'd like to have an answer about which book is most recommended to get SCMAD. Unfortunately, as I see, there is not so much info for SCMAD as for SCWCD, SCBCB, SCJP... and so on...

Thank you for helping me.

Luis,

I think you should ask this type of question at the SCMAD forum. Anyway check the ScmadLinks
section here at Javaranch and http://j2mecertificate.com, including the exam resources section.

Hi Luis,
Since there is no exam-specific book for the SCMAD exam, you might need to read general Java ME book available in the market. I do recommend Wireless Java, Second edition of Jonathan Knudsen. Here is the book's official home page.

Hope it helps...

Hi Ko Ko,

Since you would have been through most of the available general Java ME book, I was wondering which book did you find most detailed on PushRegistry Concepts?.

Thanks!

William

None of the books I have on my bookshelf dedicates one whole chapter for PushRegistry. So I enjoy reading the PushRegistry section of MIDP 2.0 specification.

Most users are usually more confortable with an hands-on approach
and Knudsen's book is good at that.

But for study you should not overlook the actual documentation for each of the APIs covered by SCMAD. They provide the best reference ... and really should be studied. Check links for them in the SCMADLinks section

My advice for anyone studying for SCMAD is to create a list of specs section to read according to the SCMAD exam objectives.

The book by Roger Riggs et al, is actually a very good one for study, but it essentially contains the same information as the actual CLDC & MIDP API specifications (plus it does not cover MMAPI 1.1 - just MIDP Media API - nor WMA 1.1).

Currently I have book "Beginning J2ME Form Novice to Professional" by Jonathan Knudsen.

Also I went through the contents of book "Wireless Java Developing with J2ME" again by Jonathan Knudsen, contents are same as that of book I have...

I thought of buying other book which I don't have...

Any thoughts on this?

As I said, the book by Riggs et al is a very good one, but you can get the API specifications for free and these provide the important reference material, so buying the book is maybe redundant.

I don't know any other book better than Knudsen's for general purpose J2ME programming.

Other books I also bought are:
  • Core J2ME programming which I didn't like as much (it does not cover WMA but outside the scope of SCMAD; covers PDA J2ME programming). It is good for beginners.
  • Enterprise J2ME: Developing Mobile Applications which is more adequate for advanced users.
  • J2ME in a Nutshell which I don't really recommend it since it only covers MIDP 1.0)

  • See more at Amazon.

Here are three books I've got on my bookshelf.

I haven't found the 'Killer Book' on J2ME, but these books together cover everything from beginner to advanced. It's alot of reading though!
