Once Javaranch is transitioned to Jive,
(1) Will all the old messages be ported to Jive ?
(2) Will the user login and password remain the same or is it required to re-register with Jive again ?
(3) What will happen to user signatures, post counts, member ids etc ? Will they change ?
(4) I noticed that some of the smiley faces in the current Javaranch forum are not present in the Jive test site. If messages are ported, will those smileys be replaced with something equivalent. Obviously should not be replaced with
(5) I tried the spell check feature of the new Jive board, but words like SCJD,SCWCD are shown up as spelling mistakes. Though they are not words from any dictionary, I guess at least half the posts on Javaranch will have one of SCJD,SCWCD or SCJP.

Yes

Jive has smilies. example. You can see them if you "reply" to a message.

Good point. Maybe we can add those to the dictionary.

Logon and password will remain the same.

User signature will be gone. Post counts will remain since posts will be ported. Member ID #'s will change.

Added to the dictionary.

Has anyone started putting together a FAQ about the JIVE Transition and/or JIVE in general, similar to this post, but something more concrete to just link to??

Actually, Tom, isn't there a chance that a persons post count MIGHT go down, since some posts have been deleted (either by the person, or in one of Pauls clean up efforts).
Since Jive would not be aware of the posts that no longer exist - it would not count them.

Does UBB really keep count even for your deleted posts? That seems an easy way to drive up your post count.

Yes, UBB's count includes deleted posts as well.

I think for most people that it is not a significant difference.
