Hi All,
I surprised to note that <login-config> element in web.xml does not have any mandatory sub element. Now my question is if I don't specify the sub element <auth-method> how does the container authenticate the request?

Hi,

All the three subelements of <login-config> (<auth-method> , <realm-name> & <form-login- config> are optional. If subelement <auth-method> is not included, the server defaults to HTTP Basic Authentication.

Thanks,
Mahesh

Hi Tridib,

You can look at the DTD definition for the login-config element and you can get this from the Mikalai Zaikins notes for SCWCD!

Hi Jothi,
I am not sure if there are any DTD for Servlet 2.4. Could you send me the exact URL or page no. of any document that explains what happen when you don't specify the sub-elements of <login-config>?

Tridib,

Page 68 of Mikalai Zaikin's notes speak about the DTD. But I'm not sure if it also explains why!
