Is the book "SCWCD Exam Study Kit: Java Web Component Developer Certification by Hanumant Deshmukh and Jignesh Malavia" (first edition) still ok for studying SCWCD 1.4... ?

Hi,
The book you mentioned,I think,is not used very much these days.If you get to see a copy of that then please check wheather the objectives in the book do match with the current SCWCD exam objectives onwww.sun.com.
Some of the best resources to study in my opinion are:
1)HeadFirst :Servlets & JSP(By Bryan Basham & others)
2)Rancher's notes by Mikalai Zaikin & Fredric Esnault which you will find
in SCWCDLinks of this site.

Regards,
Vipul

So long as you are aware of the differences, such a book can be useful, but you will need something that covers the current version as well. If you rely on only the old material you probably won't pass the exam. I have commented on this in the introduction to my online course at

http://www.examulator.com/moodle/mod/resource/view.php?id=428

"I'm including this section as you may consider using books or materials for the older version of the exam. This is a fine approach (they should be cheaper), so long as you are aware of the difference. This version of the exam ( CX-310-081 ) broadly covers the same material as the last version of the exam, with some changes and additions. Some of the new features are

* Filters (Objective 3.3)
* Expression Language (Objective 7)
* The JSTL (Objective 9.3)
* Simple Tags (Objective 10.4)
* Tag Files (Objective 10.5)

This version of the exam has removed the requirement to be able to design and develop Thread safe servlets. If you see mock exam questions on that topic you can safely ignore them."

To be brief, the first edition is not ok, it's aimed at the old version of the exam.

Yes. But the second version aimed for SCWCD 1.4. I have passed the SCWCD exam by study primarily on the book and also read Mikalai Zaikin's Study note. I think the book is good enough
