i saw a site called Dallas SCJD study group in which they have a project manager and they were assigned different parts of a project... can we javaranch have something like that but assigments are based on experience, a participant ca "go up the ladder" as he/she gained experience...
it would be like a software company so to speak but the goal is to educate...

WE have that. It is called the Cattle Drive. Then we have a whole forum dedicated to discussions by folks doing the Cattle Drive.

sorry cindy i have seen cattle drive (i'm doing it next after i'm done with a book's simulation exercise) but it seems to me the student is working on his/her own on the whole project... i got the impression that the dallas site is working on one big project and each gets a chunk of it...

You could always join one of the open source projects at Sourceforge. I have been looking around for one to join and it seems like there are a lot of good chances to get experience.
