about serialization

Hi All,
I've received the scjd assignment last week,here is one of the requirements:
"The program must be able to work in a non-networked mode. In this mode, the database and GUI must run in the same VM and must perform no networking, must not use loopback networking, and must not involve the serialization of any objects when communicating between the GUI and database elements."
I decide to use a DataInfo(implements Serializable) to contain record information.It's ok when the application run in networked mode.Is it legal to use it in non-networked mode?
My mother language is not English,so maybe I misunderstand what the Sun means.Anybody help me?

It is. What it means is that although you have to serialize the object for network transport, you should just pass it around by reference and not serialize (after all what would be the point) when running in standalone mode.
