I notice that the url of this site is:
http://www.javaranch.com

Which prompts a question: is Javaranch run on perl cgi scripts? If so, why not Java? Are Perl CGI scripts as good as Java for this kind of site? What are the advantages of Perl CGI?

This question gets asked on a regular basis; here's a recent discussion. The short story is that long ago, when JavaRanch was first launched, there was no Java forum solution available at all. In the intervening years, several have appeared, but none have the feature set we need. We're in the process of building one ourselves, based on one of the available open-source Java forums. Watch this space for news on our progress.
