I have been studying the exam using both books. I have read through the Mughal book and have questions in many areas. I then bought the RHE book. This book is just like a breeze. It makes the Java learning much easier.
The question I have is would it be enough just focus on the RHE book? Is the coverage enough to challenge the exam? Thanks.

It was enough for me.
That doesn't mean Mughal is not a good book.
I have never read the Mughal book, but then
its me. I have heard a lot of good things abt
Mughal also.
No matter what you go with, I strongly suggest you write a lot of programs and try.
Good luck.

Hi.
I feel both are the right book for SCJP certification.
I, myself , use RHE, because I find it much easier. If the same matter is with you, you know what you're supposed to do...

I was told by several people RHE is good but not
enough to pass the exam. RHE is a fun book to read, but I am still wondering if there are people
who passed it by only using this book?

for people who have never progammed in any language, Mughal can be tough to start with. But with RHE even novices can start with. But again Mughal would go into details of a topic. Reading both of them would be a good complement (like me).
All the best, though you will have to supplement with mock tests as well. It's a tough road. but each step is a great learning.
Now from here on basic C programming is like a kid stuff and good to appreciate C++ and other OO languages. Hope you got the point.

Take my advice
don't go to the exam without reading the mughal book
and doing all the mocks
and a lot of hands on with programs especially Threads

I think that if you have a lot of Java programming experience, then the RHE should be enough. If you need some coding experience then go with Mughal. You can't go wrong if you use both.

just for passing?? i think the either one will get you there. For the exam, i think you should read RHE and later on read Mughal to get to know
the language better.
I used Mughal to pass the exam. It is a must read if you ask me. But too much info for passing the exam.
anyway, good luck on your quest.

I love the Mugal book!! I have both. I usually read the chapter in RHE first, then go over it in Mugal's book. I just find that the RHE book misses a lot, or assumes that you know it. Mugal doesn't assume this and gives an incredible amount of information. I think using both is an excellent idea, because they both explain things a bit differently, which can help make it clearer for you.
Just my 2 cents,
/rick
