I would say that the object is eligible for garbage collection as soon as the method m is invoked. As m is static, the actual object is not required, nor will it be accessible from within that method. Therefore, the object can be discarded as soon as it is created and m is invoked.
I may be mistaken, but that's my take on it.

Hi Badrinath. Corey explains what happens when m is not static in the second post �2. new C().m() and gc�.
Also, we do not know when an object is *going to be* reclaimed by the garbage collector. That sounds much too definite. We can only say when an object is *eligible* for garbage collection. Or we can say when an object is *unreachable* from a root reference.
